(n.) A public key encryption application written by Philip R. Zimmermann in 1991 for MS-DOS, Unix, and other platforms. It uses an encryption algorithm claimed by U.S. patent number 4,405,829. PGP facilitates the exchange of files or messages with privacy and authentication. Secure channels are not required for the exchange of keys between users.
