(n.) A connector on a computer in which a serial line connects peripherals that use a bitstream protocol. The usual configuration is a DB-25 connector carrying RS-232 signals. It is also known as a comport and is typically connected to a universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART) integrated circuit (IC) that converts between serial and parallel formats.
