(pronounced “ESS-ram”) (n.) Static random-access memory; memory that retains a static value as long as power is supplied, unlike Dynamic RAM (DRAM), which must be refreshed regularly. In contrast to ROM, SRAM will lose its contents when the power is switched off. Usually faster than DRAM, SRAM is used where speed is critical, such as in cache memory applications.
