(n.) A popular HTTP server for Unix that anyone can use for free. Developed in 1995, it is based on Hypertext Transfer Protocol daemon (HTTPd), a program written at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). Apache is the most widely used HTTP server on the Internet in the 20th century, running on more than a third of all web servers. Among its features are authentication databases, content negotiation, and configurable error messages, all based on a database management system (DBMS). It is available at http://www.apache.org.
