apparent power

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

(n.) The result of multiplying the root mean square (rms) value of the voltage by the rms value of the current in an electronic circuit. It is expressed in watts (W) for resistive loads and in voltamperes (VA) for reactive loads. It is the amount of power that appears to be available, but because of power factor, the real power is actually less. Also called average power.
