(n.) A video compression standard developed by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) for ISDN transmission. Data is compressed at 64P kilobits per second (Kbps), where P ranges from 1 to 30, depending on the number of ISDN channels used. Developed primarily to support videoconferencing, H.261 is referred to as P x 64, pronounced “P-TIMES-64.”
