(n.) A standard CD-ROM format for file and directory placement. It was developed by computer vendors, software developers, and CD-ROM system integrators. Twelve companies began work on the format proposal in 1985 at the High Sierra Hotel in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. The ISO 9660 format is a revised version of the High Sierra format adopted by the ISO.
