(n.) The application of musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) protocols for controlling stage and effect devices in live theater venues, multimedia, audio, visual, and similar environments. Charlie Richmond conducted a nine-month online discussion about the MIDI show control in 1990 and presented a report to the MIDI manufacturers association (MMA) in January 1991. The report was ratified by MMA’s Japanese counterparts and published with industry approval in July 1991.
