(n.) An audio CD format developed by Sony for use with its Data Discman portable system. Invented in 1991, a minidisc holds 200 megabytes (MB) of data. The format was revised in 1992 and introduced as a rewritable magneto-optical disc format for music. The medium resembles a small floppy disk.
