narrow-band filter

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

(n.) A passive notch filter that exhibits very high Q and an extremely narrow filter range, about 5 Hz at the -3 dB points. Patented by C. P. Boner, the narrowband filter is particularly useful when connected in series to reduce feedback. The term applies to all filters narrower than 1/3-octave, including parametric filters and notch filters.
