parametric equalizer

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

(n.) A multi-band variable equalizer that allows control of all the parameters of the internal filters, including amplitude, center frequency, and bandwidth. The user can shift the center frequency and widen or narrow the affected area. Units are available with rotary and slide controls. Some parametric equalizers are available that allow control of center frequency but not bandwidth. Units with slide controls are often called paragraphic equalizers. The frequency control may be variable (analog) or selectable in steps (digital). Cut-only parametric equalizers (with or without
adjustable bandwidth) are called notch equalizers or band-reject equalizers.
