« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

(n.) A hierarchical list of directories and subdirectories that lead to a given file. It is expressed as differences from the current location. For example, “C:/media/ Present2.mpg” leads to the “Present2.mpg” file, located in the directory titled “media” under the root directory C:. Relative paths are often used when files are located on the same server as the HTML page that refers to them. Graphic files are often placed in a directory named “images,” and they reside on the same HTTP server as HTML pages.
