Rock Ridge Format

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

(n.) CD-recordable specifications for Unix that permit directory structures to be updated when new files are added to the disc. The specifications include the Rock Ridge Interchange Protocol Specification (RRIPS) and the System Use Sharing Protocol (SUSP). The SUSP extension to the ISO 9660 standard allows more than one file system extension to exist on a single CD-ROM. The RRIPS specification allows POSIX files and directories to be recorded on a CD-ROM without requiring modifications to files, such as renaming. Both of these specifications are extensions of the original ISO 9660 format for CD-ROM.
