(n.) The protocol by which a service is delivered. Common ones are Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), POP, and Unix-to-Unix CoPy (UUCP) for delivering Internet mail. For delivering news, Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) or UUCP is used.
