(pronounced “you-are-EL”) (n.) A means of identifying an exact location on the Internet. A URL has four parts. In http://hansenmedia.com/html/info/default.html, for example, there is the protocol type (http://), the DNS server name (hansenmedia.com), the subdirectory (/html/info/), and the file name (default.html).
