Universal Serial Bus 2.0 [USB 2.0]

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

(n.) An updated version of the USB interface that allows data transfer rates of up to 480 Mbps. Most of the original features are retained. USB devices cannot be directly connected to one another, only through a hub. Many devices have internal hubs, however, so that peripherals may be daisy-chained. Small devices, such as hubs and mice, draw their operating power from the bus, eliminating the need for additional power sources. Since 2002, most new computers are equipped with USB 2.0 as a standard bus.
