(n.) A quantity of electromotive force measured between two points in an electrical circuit. The voltage between two points may also be identified as the charge between those points (expressed in coulombs) divided by the capacitance (expressed in farads). The capacitance depends on the dielectric constant of the insulators present. Voltage is analogous to the pressure of water in a pipe, whereas current is analogous to the amount of water flowing over a unit of time.
