white balance

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

(n., adj.) An adjustment made to a camera or another video source so that a white object will produce the proper signal. Most consumer camcorders have automatic white-balance circuits. It is imperative to calibrate a video camera when light conditions change. This is often accomplished by recording a white page of paper full screen at the depth of the background. The camera then automatically corrects color as needed.
