YUV9

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

(n.) An image color format with significant sub-sampling, typically used with compressed video technologies, such as Indeo and Sorenson Video. For every 16 luminance (Y) samples in a 4×4 pixel block, a single hue (U) component and a single chroma value (V) is used. Such radical color sub-sampling produces relatively small files with low color fidelity. YUV9 sub-sampling may result in undesirable artifacts at the edges of highly saturated areas. (n.)
