(n.) In audio production, a relative level of intensity. Analog zero is a nominal decibel (dB) level near the top of a VU meter, and loud sounds are likely to exceed it during recording. Digital zero, which is the highest level that may be recorded without distortion, is an absolute limit. Depending on equipment set-tings, analog zero usually equals 18 dB below digital zero.
