Harmonic minor scale

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

A scale with a major 2nd, minor 3rd, P4th, P5th, minor 6th, and major 7th. There is an augmented 2nd between the m6 and M7, giving it a unique sound. When tonal music is written in minor keys, the Melodic form is used in all voices. The Harmonic minor can be considered a theoretical construct to describe the quality of most chords used in typical progressions.
