Pedal six-four

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

One of the common types of second inversion triads in which the bass note is held while the triad members above move into a six-four chord and return to the original voicing. The bass note becomes a common tone between two repeated chords in root position. The IV chord in the I-IV6/4-I progression is an example of the pedal six-four.
