Automatic Dialog Replacement [ADR]

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

(n.) An automated process for substituting a new voice track for the original, often to eliminate unwanted sounds from production audio tracks. ADR systems play short segments of actors’ dialog repeatedly in a constant rhythm so that they can hear it through headphones and recreate their original performance, improving synchronization with the picture. This process is also referred to as looping.
