(n.) An integrated circuit (IC) that performs complex operations on data. The data processed is usually an audio signal in the form of a digitized waveform. Effects processors, which are common types of DSPs, perform functions such as digital delay, reverb, filtering, equalization, and stereo chorusing. The term is not limited to audio processing; it also applies to the treatment of video and other data types.
