(n.) A video compression scheme used in MPEG. Motion vectors are used to increase efficiency in predicting pixel values. These vectors are used to provide offsets based on the positioning of objects that move between intracoded frames (I-frames) and predictive-coded frames (P-frames). The information encoded is just the difference between the actual image and the predicted image. See also MPEG frame type.
