Common Gateway Interfaces (CGIs) and Perl libraries exist for several platforms. The flexibility of Perl makes it well suited for form processing. Perl5 is a major rewrite and enhancement of the widely distributed version 4. Short for Practical Extraction and Report Language or, as some would have it, Pathologically Eclectic Rubbish Lister.
