(n.) In video production, the process of rewinding tape to a point that precedes the beginning of a scene or to a specific frame identified by a time code. In order to bring the tape up to speed from a dead start, it is necessary to begin rolling slightly ahead of the first frame of a segment that is to be dubbed or encoded.
