« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

(n.) Developed by E. F. Codd, a type of database that allows data structures to be defined. The data is organized in tables, or collections of records, in which each record contains the same fields, or categories of information. The relationships between the data are defined. Certain fields are designated as keys, expediting searches. Records in different tables may be linked if they have a common field in each table. Oracle Database, FileMaker Pro, and Microsoft Access are examples.
