(n.) Shadow random-access memory; a physical memory location in IBM-compatible computers where ROM code that is frequently accessed is stored in RAM to accelerate performance. The BIOS code that is normally executed in the slower ROM is copied, or “shadowed,” in RAM to improve performance.
