(n.) The Internet standard protocol used to manage nodes on an Internet Protocol (IP) network. SNMP is defined in RFC 1157, STD 15. SNMP version 2 (SNMP v2) is a revision of SNMP that improves security, performance, confidentiality, and communication between managers. The main components are defined in RFCs 1441 through 1452.
