(n.) 1. On an audio tape or a videotape, the physical area that contains an individual program or some control information. It could be compared to a lane on the freeway. 2. The process through which a recorded videotape plays back. A machine that “tracks” well has its heads properly aligned. Videotape tracks are recorded diagonally. 3. One of the adjacent bands of the data spiral on a compact disc. The tracks on a hard disk exist in the form of concentric circles rather than in a spiral shape.
