(adj.) In audio and telecommunications, describes channels that carry a signal on one wire and use a second wire as a ground. Unbalanced wiring is less expensive than balanced configurations that carry the signal as a difference between two wires, and use a third wire as the ground. Unbalanced lines are more susceptible to spurious noise than are balanced lines.
