analog

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

(n.) A method of representing physical variables that flow and change continuously, such as voltage, pressure, or motion. Their values are expressed as the quantitative magnitude of the variables. Analog devices are often controlled by knobs and sliders, and their output is shown by dials, gauges, and meters. The output of an analog system is analogous to changes that it tracks or measures on a scale of infinite variety.
