interlace

(v.) To combine two field scans to form a single video frame. In a video stream, the first field contains even-numbered scan lines, whereas the second field consists of odd-numbered lines. The two complementary fields lace together to form a single, complete frame. This practice, common to most video systems, is based on the concept of video persistence. The human eye holds the image of the first field while the second field is displayed, and it blends the two.
