linear PCM

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

(n.) A pulse code modulation (PCM) encoding system in which the signal is converted directly to a PCM word without any companding or other processing. Linear PCM distributes the value of the data evenly across the frequency spectrum. If companding is applied, a signal is compressed at input and restored to its original form on output.
