(n.) This is the standard for professional audio active crossovers. The model L4 is a fourth-order unit with 24 dB/octave slopes, based on a combination of cascading Butterworth filters. The outputs are in phase and summed to a constant voltage response. Two Hewlett-Packard engineers, Linkwitz and Riley, designed it in 1976.
