Sound Recorder

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

(n.) An applet, available in Microsoft Windows, that creates .wav audio files. The quality of the audio depends on the quality of the microphone used and the sampling circuitry on the installed sound card. To ensure the highest signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, audio recordings should always be made by adjusting the input levels so that the meters reach, but do not exceed, peak levels. In digital recording, little headroom exists beyond the peak level, and input levels that are too hot will cause ugly distortion.
