Universal Resource Identifier [URI]

(pronounced “you-are-EYE”) (n.) The term used for a short string, which is a name or address that references a file or a location on the Internet. It is used to identify a resource, such as a graphic file, that is embedded in an HTML document or the document itself. A uniform resource locator (URL) is a type of URI. A full definition of URI is contained in RFC 1630.
