Episode

Segment of a fugue that does not contain a complete entry of the subject. Often found in the development section between subject entries, based on sequenced fragments found in the exposition. The term is also used to describe the contrasting sections in a Rondo. In a typical ABACA form, the B and C sections are episodes in contrasting keys, and A represents the theme in the tonic key.
