Major scale

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

A scale with the ascending Whole-step and Half-step configuration of W-W-H-W-W-W-H. Of the seven different pitches, half-steps lie between the 3rd and 4th scale degrees and the 7th and 8th scale degrees, forming an octave. A major scale is created by using a key signature, and beginning on the tonic of that key.
