A traditional video-editing term that describes a comprehensive system that can edit, record, and add special effects. Online systems are expensive, so rough edits or edit decision lists (EDLs) are typically compiled using offline systems. In video postproduction, the online edit is the final editing process that integrates all the elements created and specified during the offline edit.
