(n.) The location on an audio mixingboard where an external outboard signalprocessor is connected. The loop consists of an output Send jack connecting to the effects box input, and an input Return jack that comes from the effects box output. Typically, two separate 1/4″ connectors are provided to patch in an outboard processor using separate cables for send and receive. These jacks are usually unbalanced.
