(n.) An instrument used for measuring resistance. The circuit is a 4-arm bridge, all arms of which are resistive. The bridge is a two-port network, with two terminal pairs across opposite corners. When voltage is applied to one port, by suitable adjustment of the resistive elements in the network, zero output can be obtained at the signal output port. Under these circumstances, the bridge is termed “balanced.” See balanced circuit.
