An interval with the same pitches as the original, but with the bottom pitch on top and the upper pitch below. To invert an interval, subtract its number from 9 and reverse the quality. For example, a minor 3rd inverted becomes a major 6th, and a major 7th inverted is a minor 2nd. Perfect intervals do not change quality, but augmented intervals become diminished and vice versa.
