scalability

« BACK TO DICTIONARY INDEX

(n.) A feature that allows content to be displayed at high resolutions on large monitors and at low resolutions on small monitors. Usually, scalable video or audio technologies allow the same data to be output over a range of quality levels, with better playback systems producing higher-quality products. A scalable font exists in a vector format and consists of a series of mathematical calculations that allow type to be resized without a loss of quality.
